Information About Packet Drops
What are Packet Drops
A packet drop occurs when a router or a network device fails to transmit packets, instead of forwarding them to their intended destination.
Functional Elements in Cisco ASR 1000 Series Routers
The Cisco ASR 1000 Series Router consists of the following key components within the system:
-
Cisco ASR 1000 Series Route Processor (RP).
-
Cisco ASR 1000 Series Embedded Services Processor (ESP).
-
Cisco ASR 1000 Series SPA Interface Processor (SIP) or Modular Interface Processor.
Cisco Quantum Flow Processor Based Hardware Architecture
The Cisco ASR 1000 Series Routers feature the Cisco Quantum Flow Processor (QFP) as the core of their hardware design. Within this design framework, every packet is processed and routed via the Embedded Services Processor (ESP). If an issue arises within the ESP, packet routing and forwarding are halted.
