FPGA Firmware Selection

The Cisco Nexus 3550-T Programmable Switch Platform uses reconfigurable FPGA technology to provide switching functionality. The device ships with a number of different FPGA firmware images, each of which provides a different set of functionality. Users can choose the FPGA firmware image that is best suited for their use case.

Selecting the FPGA firmware image

To select the FPGA firmware image, use the firmware command in config mode. For example, to select the 1g-10g FPGA firmware image, use the following command:

admin@NX-3550-T(config)# firmware 1g-10g
For the new firmware to take effect, the firmware selection must be saved
to startup config, and then the device needs to be rebooted

The selected firmware is not applied immediately. After specifying the firmware, the configuration must be saved to startup-config, and then the device must be restarted. The FPGA firmware will be updated when the device restarts.

admin@NX-3550-T# copy run start
admin@NX-3550-T# reboot

Name Description
10g 10G only firmware. This is the default selection.
1g-10g First 12 ports support 1G and 10G. Remaining ports are 10G only. The latency on this firmware is 3.1ns higher than the 10g firmware.
