Cada host iSCSI que requer acesso ao armazenamento através do módulo de armazenamento IP deve ter um driver iSCSI compatível instalado. O driver iSCSI permite que um host iSCSI transporte solicitações e respostas iSCSI através de uma rede IP com o protocolo iSCSI. Da perspectiva de um SO host, o driver iSCSI parece ser um driver de transporte iSCSI semelhante a um driver FC para um canal periférico no host. Cada host IP aparece como um host FC da perspectiva do dispositivo de armazenamento.
Conclua estes passos para rotear o iSCSI do host IP para o dispositivo de armazenamento FC:
Transportar solicitações e respostas iSCSI em uma rede IP entre hosts e o módulo de armazenamento IP.
Use o módulo de armazenamento IP para rotear solicitações e respostas iSCSI entre hosts em uma rede IP e o dispositivo de armazenamento FC (converta iSCSI em FCP e vice-versa).
Transporta solicitações ou respostas de FCP entre o módulo de armazenamento IP e os dispositivos de armazenamento FC.
O módulo de armazenamento IP não importa os destinos FC para iSCSI por padrão. Você deve configurar o mapeamento dinâmico ou estático para que o módulo de armazenamento IP torne os destinos FC disponíveis para iniciadores iSCSI. Os destinos FC mapeados estaticamente têm um nome configurado quando ambos estão configurados. Essa configuração fornece exemplos de mapeamento estático.
Cada vez que o host iSCSI se conecta ao módulo de armazenamento IP com mapeamento dinâmico:

Os nomes do mundo inteiro do nó (nWWNs) e os nomes do mundo inteiro da porta (pWWNs) alocados para essa porta N podem ser diferentes.

Uma lista de nomes de nós do iniciador iSCSI que têm acesso permitido
O controle de acesso baseado em zoneamento FC e o controle de acesso baseado em iSCSI são os dois mecanismos pelos quais o controle de acesso pode ser fornecido para iSCSI. Você pode usar ambos os métodos simultaneamente. O zoneamento padrão foi permitido para uma rede de área de armazenamento virtual (VSAN) específica nesta configuração. Os módulos de armazenamento IP usam listas de controle de acesso baseadas em nome de nó iSCSI e baseadas em zoneamento FC para aplicar o controle de acesso durante a descoberta iSCSI e a criação de sessões iSCSI.
O iniciador iSCSI pode ser definido estaticamente por endereço IP ou por nome qualificado (IQN) iSCSI. Uma opção de iniciador de proxy permite a criação dinâmica de iniciadores iSCSI em SAN-IOS 1.3 para os switches Cisco MDS.
A descoberta de iSCSI ocorre quando um host iSCSI cria uma sessão de descoberta iSCSI e consulta todos os destinos iSCSI. O módulo de armazenamento IP retorna apenas a lista de destinos iSCSI que as políticas de controle de acesso permitem que o host iSCSI acesse.
A criação de sessão iSCSI ocorre quando um host IP inicia uma sessão iSCSI. O módulo de armazenamento IP verifica:
Se o destino iSCSI especificado (na solicitação de login da sessão) for um destino mapeado estático
Que o nome do nó iSCSI do host IP tem permissão para acessar o destino
O login será rejeitado se o host IP não tiver acesso.
O módulo de armazenamento IP então:
Cria uma porta N virtual FC (a porta N já pode existir) para este host IP
Faz uma consulta de servidor de nome FC para o ID de Fibre Channel (FCID) do pWWN de destino FC acessado pelo host IP
O módulo de armazenamento IP usa o pWWN da porta N virtual do host IP como o solicitante da consulta do servidor de nome. Assim, o servidor de nomes faz uma consulta imposta por zona para o pWWN e responde à consulta. A sessão iSCSI será aceita se o servidor de nome retornar o FCID. Caso contrário, a solicitação de login será rejeitada.
