This document provides a sample configuration for a PPP back-to-back connection. With such a configuration, you can verify that your connection and hardware are working properly, and even use IP routing for some testing.
There are no specific requirements for this document.

This configuration is applicable to all Cisco IOS® Software Releases.
The DCE side is connected with a WAN DCE cable.
The DTE side is connected with a WAN DTE cable.

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

In this section, you are presented with the information to configure the features described in this document.
In this configuration, Router1 uses a V35-MT cable (the Cisco reference is CAB-V35MT), and Router2 uses a V35-FC cable (the Cisco reference is CAB-V35FC). This means that the clock is provided by Router2. A clock rate of 64000 bps is used by issuing the clock rate 64000 command under the serial 0 interface.
Note: Once this command is configured, it appears in the configuration as clock rate 64000. The two cables are now connected to each other.
The Ethernet interfaces are configured by issuing the no keepalive command. That way, it is not necessary to connect them to the LAN network in order to get them up and running. Using a static route on each router enables you to ping the IP address of the Ethernet interface of Router2, using the IP address of the Ethernet interface of Router1 (or the other way round). Of course, this is useful in a test environment.
