CSCwa97019 | NCS-57C3-MODS-SYS: DCPSU IDPROM Failed to Detect in XR |
Some Cisco NCS-57C3-MOD-SYS routers might fail to read the DC power supply details of NC57-1600W-DCFW when the router is power-cycled, when the system is reloaded, or when Online Insertion and Removal (OIR) is performed.
The issue is limited to a discrepancy in the console output of the router and has no impact on the network or traffic.
Cisco IOS® XR software requires a specific command sequence to access the power supply details through Identification Programmable Read Only Memory (IDPROM). It is observed that the IDPROM read errors might cause discrepancies when the power supplies are detected.
The system will power on under normal operation and there is no functionality impact to the routers.
An impacted system will exhibit two symptoms.
0/RP0/ADMIN0:MMM DD HH:MM:SS : card_mgr[2941]: %LIBRARY-PSU-3-IDPROM_READ_FAILURE : Power Module 1 failed to read the IDPROM.
0/RP0/ADMIN0:MMM DD HH:MM:SS : card_mgr[2941]: %LIBRARY-PSU-3-IDPROM_READ_FAILURE : Power Module 1 failed to read the IDPROM.
show platform
command will not detect the power supply, as shown in this example:
sysadmin-vm:0_RP0# sysadmin-vm:0_RP0# show platform | inc PM MMM DD HH:MM:SS
The workaround for the issue is to restart the Cisco IOS XR Card Manager to bring up the power supply.
process restart card_mgr location 0/RP0
command:
sysadmin-vm:0_RP0# process restart card_mgr location 0/RP0
MMM DD HH:MM:SS
processes 0/RP0 name card_mgr 0 proc-action
proc-action-status User cisco (192.X.1XY.Z) requested restart for process card_mgr(0) at 0/RP0 'Sending signal 15 to process card_mgr(IID 0) pid=2940'
sysadmin-vm:0_RP0# 0/RP0/ADMIN0:Feb 16 09:07:58.420 UTC: pm[2721]: %INFRA-Process_Manager-3-PROCESS_RESTART : Process card_mgr (IID: 0) restarted
show platform | inc PM
command in order to check for the power supply.
sysadmin-vm:0_RP0# show platform | inc PM MMM DD HH:MM:SS 0/PM0 NC57-1600W-DCFW OPERATIONAL N/A NSHUT 0/PM1 NC57-1600W-DCFW OPERATIONAL N/A NSHUT
Note: Repeat the procedure if the workaround fails in the first attempt.
In order to fix this issue, install the recommended SMU.
Cisco recommends to install the SMU that corresponds with the Cisco IOS XR software release that runs on your device, as shown in this table:
Cisco IOS XR Release | SMU Link | SMU Install Type |
---|---|---|
Cisco IOS XR Release 7.4.1 | ncs5500-sysadmin-7.4.1.CSCwa97019.tar | Reboot |
Cisco IOS XR Release 7.4.2 | ncs5500-sysadmin-7.4.2.CSCwa97019.tar | Hitless |
Cisco IOS XR Release 7.5.1 | ncs5500-sysadmin-7.5.1.CSCwa97019.tar | Hitless |
After you install the SMU, Cisco recommends to enter the show platform | inc PM
command in order to view accurate power supply details.
Sample output is shown here:
sysadmin-vm:0_RP0# show platform | inc PM MMM DD HH:MM:SS 0/PM0 NC57-1600W-DCFW OPERATIONAL N/A NSHUT 0/PM1 NC57-1600W-DCFW OPERATIONAL N/A NSHUT
