CSCvx30142 | ISR1161/ISR1161X might reload silently with last reload reason: PowerOn |
CSCvx60093 | [ES] C1161 MCU upgrade to fix unexpected reloads issue |
CSCvx54917 | C1161 Reloads unexpectedly with no crash files |
A limited number of Cisco Integrated Services Router (ISR) C1161 units might experience silent reloads. This could cause the Cisco IOS® software to spontaneously return to ROM Monitor (ROMMON) state and reboot. A single power-on reload might not be a symptom of this issue. Several reloads is a common symptom of this issue.
Firmware in the on-board power monitor microcontroller senses that a power rail violates a voltage specification, which causes the system to power-cycle. The voltage is NOT actually out of its specified range. Manufacturing variability among the components can lead to a situation where the firmware in the power monitor microcontroller can incorrectly flag a valid power rail voltage as faulty.
This issue only affects a limited number of Cisco ISR C1161 products and will typically show within two or three days of installation.
The Cisco IOS software spontaneously returns to the ROMMON state and reboots. Several reloads is a common symptom of this issue.
Customers must follow these steps in order to address this issue. Check the Version Identifier (VID) of the router to determine if it needs to be updated. Routers with a VID of V02 or higher are not susceptible and DO NOT need to be updated.
VID | Deviation | Action |
---|---|---|
V01 | 0 | Apply the workaround if you experience issues |
V01 | 561791 | No action required |
V01 | 561625 | No action required |
V02 or higher | N/A | No action required |
In order to find the router's VID and deviation number, enter this CLI command.
