Problem Description

Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) configuration backup might intermittently fail when initiated from either the user interface or CLI. In addition, other functionalities might intermittently fail. These include, but are not limited to, upgrade of a multi-node ISE deployment, registration of new nodes, or manual sync of an out-of-sync node.

Background

ISE stores its configuration data in a database. Two configuration settings of the database are not set appropriately by the ISE software and result in intermittent configuration backup failures.

Problem Symptom

When an ISE configuration backup fails, this system message might be seen:

"DB BACKUP FAILED : . Backup aborted"

A similar message can be found in a search of the ADE.log file as well. Use the "show logging system ADE.log" CLI command in order to view the log file.

Workaround/Solution

There is no temporary workaround for this issue other than to attempt a configuration backup multiple times until it succeeds.

In order to fix this problem, upgrade or patch to these ISE software versions:

• ISE 2.0.1 Patch 4 or higher
• ISE 2.1 Patch 5 or higher
• ISE 2.2 Patch 2 or higher
• ISE 2.3 or later
