CSCus62594 | Commit new fpga image that support new license flash |
The SPA-UBR10-DS-HD card with the new License Flash Chip does not work with the Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2.33-IOS SCI FPD image in cases where the Shared Port Adapter (SPA) is upgraded from 3G to 6G capacity or downgraded from 6G to 3G capacity.
The Cisco Universal Broadband Router (uBR10012) 3G SPA card (SPA-UBR10-DS-HD) will soon transition to a new License Flash Chip. The new chip is supported by the Cisco IOS software Version 12.2.33-SCI1 or later FPD image.
Note: No action is required if the SPA card remains with its original 3G capacity without an upgrade or downgrade.
The Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware on the SPA-UBR10-DS-HD card is a Field Programmable Device (FPD). The capacity downgrade/upgrade for this SPA (3G to 6G, or vice versa) is performed via a change of the FPGA image.
The FPD image for this SPA is stored on the disk0 of PRE5, and the customer must manually download the correct FPD image version from Cisco.com.
From June 11, 2015 onwards, the SPA-UBR10-DS-HD card License Flash Chip will transition to a new chip from a different vendor.
The current IOS release in the field (12.2-33-SCI) FPD image does not support an upgrade of the 3G to 6G capacity or the downgrade from 6G to 3G capacity on the SPA card with the new License Flash Chip.
In order to allow a successful SPA capacity change with the new License Flash Chip, a new FPD image must be installed for the uBR10012 routers that run Cisco IOS Release 12.2.33-SCI.
This message will be observed in the error logs if an SPA card the new License Flash Chip is upgraded or downgraded with the old FPGA image:
* Jan 23 11:24:33.659 CST: %LICENSE-2-LIC_STORAGE_CORRUPT: Corrupted storage.
Please reinstall all licenses. UDI=UBR10-PRE5:CAT xxxxxxx
Cisco recommends installation of the FPD flash image for the SPA-UBR10-DS-HD card that has the new License Flash Chip for uBR10012 routers that run IOS Release 12.2.33-SCI. This action must be taken only for the SPAs that are upgraded from 3G to 6G capacity.
Note: There is no action required for the SPA cards that have the new License Flash Chip and that will remain with the default 3G capacity.
Refer to this table in order to determine the required action for your specific deployment:
FPD Installation
Complete these steps in order to install the FPD image:
Note: Refer to the Manually Upgrading the Cisco 3 Gbps Wideband Shared Port Adapter FPD to Cisco 6 Gbps Wideband Shared Port Adapter section of the Cisco uBR10012 Universal Broadband Router SIP and SPA Software Configuration Guide for more information about the normal FPD upgrade process.
The hardware information can be verified either with the CLI or with a visual inspection of the SPA card, as shown in the sections that follow.
