Problem Description

The 15454-OPT-AMP-C card may perform the start up cycle without reaching an operational stable condition.

This issue is only seen under two contiions:

• 15454-OPT-AMP-C cards showing the following info: Vendor ID= 1536, FW version= 2.3.4 or previous in the Card Inventory tab.
• The OCH circuit built onto the amplifier is:
  • an OC3/OC12 frame modulated signal
  • an OC48/OC192 payload carried by a TXP/MXP card with G709 framing (and consequently FEC too) DISABLE at card level

This issue is always reproducible when the first circuit created on the 15454-OPT-AMP-C has the above mentioned payload settings.

Background

Investigation into the 15454-OPT-AMP-C behavior was found to be consistent with Cisco bug ID CSCtj08551.

The issue has been root caused to defective firmware on some OPT-AMP-C units from a specific vendor.

Problem Symptom

The 15454-OPT-AMP-C cards become unstable after first circuit activation.

The amplifier shows either one of the following problems:

• Card does not complete startup and gain control mode switching procedure successfully: 15454-OPT-AMP-C stays stuck in a never-ending APR cycle
• Card completes the startup sequence, but after 30/60 seconds a continuous Pout oscillation (up to 6-7dB read by CTC) occurs on COM-RX or LINE-TX ports
• Card completes the startup sequence, stays stable for a while and then goes in Equipment Failure (EQPT) critical alarm.

Workaround/Solution

Complete a software upgrade to Release 9.21, 9.2.1.1 or 9.23.

A new FW version (2.3.6) included the above releases will be automatically downloaded and activated on the 15454-OPT-AMP-C cards.

• Vendor ID = 1536
• FW version = 2.3.4 or earlier
