Table 2. Product Part Numbers Affected by This Announcement
Customers are encouraged to migrate from Cisco Catalyst 4500 Prestandard PoE line card (WS-X4148-RJ45V) to the Cisco Catalyst 4500 IEEE 802.3af PoE line cards (WS-X4248-RJ45V or WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V).
WS-X4148-RJ45V only supports Cisco Prestandard devices, up to 6.3 Watts per port. The replacement line cards come in 2 favors, WS-X4248-RJ45V (10/100 speed), and WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V (10/100/1000 speed). In addition to support for granular IEEE power classification and Cisco Intelligent power management, the IEEE compliant cards (X4248-RJ45V and WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V) supports up to 15.4 Watts on every port simultaneously. Moreover, the 10/100/1000 speed line card (WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V) supports TDR, which allows customers to remotely detect the condition of an attached copper cable. Both replacement line cards (WS-X4248-RJ45V and WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V) support both the IEEE standard and Cisco Prestandard Power over Ethernet.
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(18)EW customers are encouraged to migrate to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(25)EWA.
The 12.2(18)EW is an old branch with features that have been implemented on the Catalyst 4500 platform more than 2 years ago, and hence continuing support for maintenance of this branch is not scalable. The recommendation migration is to the 12.2(25)EWA branch, which is a very stable branch and has regular maintenance releases. Furthermore, the 12.2(25)EWA branch has supports for enhanced security features, HA features including SSO, the SupV-10GE supervisor, and the Catalyst 4900 fixed configuration switches. 12.2(25)EWA also has several critical bug fixes in the area of security and optimization.
Customers can use the Cisco Technology Migration Plan (TMP) to trade in products and receive credit toward the purchase of new Cisco equipment. For more information about Cisco TMP, go to:
