To meet the continual need for increased router features and performance, Cisco Systems^® introduces its newest packet-over-SONET (POS) port adapter, the Cisco^® 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter. The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter is ideal for service providers or large enterprises that need to deploy multiple ports of OC-3/STM-1 connectivity or a single OC-3/STM-1 port with redundancy and failover support.

 

The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter (Figure 1) combines superior performance and an innovative design to provide the following benefits:

å    Dual-port, line-rate performance

å    Automatic protection switching (APS) failover between ports

å    Modular, pluggable optics (Three types are available: multimode fiber, short range [MM]; single-mode fiber, intermediate range [SMIR]; and single-mode fiber, long range [SMLR])

Modular Optics

The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter offers support for two modular SFP optics. Figure 2 illustrates these ports.

SFP Optics

The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter supports two ports of any of the following SFP optics: multimode (MM), single-mode fiber intermediate range (IR), and single-mode fiber long range (LR). Two different module types may be mixed in the same port adapter. The Product Ordering section of this document provides product part numbers for the SFPs used with the 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter.

Port Adapters

The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter interoperates with all port adapters that are available for order (as of January 2003) with the Cisco 7200VXR, 7301, 7304, 7500, and 7600 routers.

Software

The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter is supported in Cisco IOS^® Software Release 12.2(13)ZE, 12.3, 12.3T, 12.2S(RLS3), 12.0(27)S, and later. Consult your Cisco representative for more details.
