Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE platform with 1 NIM and 1 PIM slot, 20-core Intel, 32-GB DRAM default |
The Cisco Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE Platform must be ordered with a mandatory Cisco DNA subscription license, along with the chassis for running Cisco Catalyst 8000V Edge Software as the routing VNF in either traditional routing or Catalyst SD-WAN mode.
This ordering guide will take you through the steps of ordering the hardware platforms and the Cisco DNA subscriptions.
Ordering Cisco Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE Platforms
The Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE platform with mandatory Cisco DNA subscriptions can be ordered in two ways:
Option 1: Order the Cisco DNA subscription and hardware with a single SKU
or
Option 2: Order the Cisco DNA subscription and hardware separately as follows:
1. Configure the hardware
2. Order the Cisco DNA subscriptions separately using L-DNA-C8000V
Option 1: Order the Cisco DNA subscription and hardware with a single SKU
Use the Product ID C8300-UCPE-1N20 (as shown in Table 1) to configure both hardware and Cisco DNA subscriptions together.
Step 1. Configure the hardware
The Cisco Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE consists of one chassis that offers six LAN/WAN ports, with one 20-core Intel® processer for hosting multiple VNFs on Cisco® Enterprise Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure Software (NFVIS). Use the following guidelines to configure the hardware chassis as necessary with supported options for DRAM, disk drives, NIM, and PIM.
A. Choose the software operating system
The Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE platform includes a unified Cisco Catalyst 8000V Edge Software image that supports Cisco IOS® XE based traditional deployments and IOS XE SD-WAN deployments in a single binary image. The minimum version supported for all deployment types is Cisco IOS XE Unified Release 17.12.1. The software image Product ID (PID) nomenclature, explained in Figure 2, can help you understand what to order based on your requirements.

B. Choose the NFVIS version
It is mandatory to choose the NFVIS hypervisor layer with every Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE platform. Currently, NFVIS version 4.12 is selected by default.
C. Choose the system memory and storage
DRAM: The Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE platforms ship with a default 32-GB DRAM. You can also upgrade to 128 GB (4 x 32 GB) by choosing a single DIMM slot or 2 DIMM slots, respectively. Table 2 outlines the DRAM options.

Storage can be an M.2 form factor or a 2.5-inch disk drive storage form factor.
M.2 storage: The 8300 Series Edge uCPE ships with a default of 600-GB M.2 USB storage. Optionally, you can choose a 75-GB or 2-TB M.2 Nonvolatile Memory Express (NVMe) SSD for storage.
U.2 NVMe SSD Storage: The 8300 Series Edge uCPE supports additional U.2 Disk drive storage other than the M.2 Storage: 2 TB or 4 TB (up to 2 units).

D. Choose the network modules
The Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE includes one NIM slot for WAN and LAN modules as well as one PIM slot for wireless WAN modules for LTE Advanced and LTE Advanced Pro capabilities.
With NFVIS 4.12 we do not support any NIMs or PIMs. This section will be updated when NIMs and PIMs are supported at the appropriate release.
E. Choose the power supplies and cables
The Cisco Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE, by default, ships with two power supplies for redundancy. This can either be an AC or DC power supply.

Step 2. Configure the Cisco DNA subscription
Under the Subscriptions section of the Hardware SKU, that is, C8300-UCPE-1N20, select the required Cisco DNA subscription part number (e.g., DNA-A-T3-P-3Y).
Cisco DNA subscription selection under the Hardware SKU in CCW
Option 2: Order the Cisco DNA subscription and hardware separately
Order the hardware system and Cisco DNA subscription separately. That is, order the hardware through the SKU C8300-UCPE-1N20, and later order Cisco DNA subscriptions separately through the SKU L-DNA-C8000V.
To order the hardware platform, follow all the steps mentioned in Option 1, except do not select the Cisco DNA subscription (step 2).
Figure 5 provides an overview of ordering the hardware system and Cisco DNA subscription separately.
Ordering process overview for option 2
Step 2. Order Cisco DNA subscriptions
The Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE requires a mandatory Cisco DNA subscription license. Cisco DNA subscription licenses are common across SD-WAN and traditional routing deployments, giving customers flexibility to consume the latest technology, either in the cloud or on-premises. All Cisco DNA subscription tiers require a Smart Account/Virtual Account (SA/VA). Cisco DNA for SD-WAN and Routing subscription licenses include embedded SWSS support ONLY for the subscription functionality (Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Manager, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Controller, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Validator, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Analytics, Cisco Umbrella®, Cisco SIG Essentials, etc.) enabled by the Cisco DNA subscriptions (Cisco DNA Essentials or Advantage). Use the part number shown in Table 6 to order subscription licenses for the Catalyst 8000V hosted on the Catalyst 8300 Series Edge uCPE.
For a more detailed overview of Cisco licensing, go to cisco.com/go/licensingguide.

Table 7 provides the details of the subscription bandwidth tiers.
Table 7. Cisco DNA subscription applicability matrix for Catalyst 8000V-based platforms
Note: A Tier 1 bandwidth license provides entitlement for 400 Mbps aggregate crypto throughput with an HSEC license. However, one-way encrypted traffic must be less than 250 Mbps. For instance, 250-Mbps download and 150-Mbps upload would work, but 300-Mbps download and 100-Mbps upload would fail.

D. Export compliance expansion (C8000V-HSEC)
When you choose a Cisco DNA subscription license greater than or equal to 250 Mbps, the C8000V-HSEC SKU is automatically expanded. This is not an HSEC license by itself; rather, it entitles the customer for a HSEC license.
Refer to Smart Licensing Using Policy for Cisco Enterprise Routing Platforms for information on generating SLAC-based HSEC licenses for Catalyst 8000V.
