Bias-Free Language
The documentation set for this product strives to use bias-free language. For the purposes of this documentation set, bias-free is defined as language that does not imply discrimination based on age, disability, gender, racial identity, ethnic identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and intersectionality. Exceptions may be present in the documentation due to language that is hardcoded in the user interfaces of the product software, language used based on RFP documentation, or language that is used by a referenced third-party product. Cisco® Voice Services Provisioning Tool (VSPT) provides a GUI for the creation, modification, and execution of signaling connections, trunks, trunk groups, routes, and dial plans on the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch and the Cisco Billing and Measurements Server (BAMS).
Product Overview
Cisco VSPT provides an easy-to-use graphical tool to provision the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch and Cisco BAMS. Users can import existing configurations into Cisco VSPT for modification and then download the modified configurations to the same or different devices. Cisco VSPT can generate the initial network provisioning information in bulk for a newly installed node, creating iterative entries from a single operation. It also supports the provisioning of individual call parameters, simplifying the provisioning of large, live networks. To simplify operator tasks, such as trunk group provisioning, Cisco VSPT employs a user interface tailored for voice configuration. Cisco VSPT automatically generates the Man Machine Language (MML) scripts used to configure the network elements.
Key Features and Benefits
Table 1 lists the features and benefits of the Cisco VSPT.
Table 1. Features and Benefits
Features
Benefits
Command GUI
Displays provisioning options on pop-up menus to reduce training and operator error
Syntax checking
Reduces errors from typos and incorrect data entry
Workflow wizards
Simplify the Cisco PGW 2200 provisioning process and workflow for inexperienced operators
Online/offline operation
Supports real-time incremental or bulk provisioning as well as offline bulk provisioning, reducing the need for constant access to the Cisco PGW 2200. Dial plan, trunk groups, and signaling links can be preprovisioned before hardware is available to reduce turn-up time.
Control features
Provides a convenient control area to activate or deactivate various components, as required, during provisioning operations
Script viewer
Scripts created by Cisco VSPT may be viewed and modified prior to transmission, helping ensure accuracy and consistency.
Incremental provisioning
Sends only those values actually changed, reducing overall configuration update time
Cisco BAMS and PGW 2200 configuration verification
Cisco VSPT checks to make sure the trunk groups configured on Cisco BAMS and PGW 2200 are aligned to help ensure accurate billing and measurement records.
Telnet/Secure Shell (SSH) Protocol cut-through
Provides a convenient way to log directly into PGW 2200 and BAMS securely
Integrated with Cisco Media Gateway Control (MGC) Node Manager
VSPT 2.7(3) is launched by MGC Node Manager and runs on the same Sun Server. It may also run without the MGC Node Manager on the PGW 2200 server; however, PGW performance impact is possible.
Product Architecture
Cisco VSPT is a Solaris application written in Java that uses an xterm standard workstation display. Cisco VSPT has no specific configuration database and requires very little administration. It always pulls the latest configuration and provisioning information from the Cisco PGW 2200 and BAMS to which it is connected. These configurations may be stored in Cisco VSPT for offline updating and later redeployed.

Product Specifications
Table 3 lists the product specifications for Cisco VSPT 2.7(3).
Table 3. Product Specifications
Specification
Description
Software compatibility
• Supports coresident operation with Cisco Media Gateway Control (MGC) Node Manager and Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch
• Tested compatible with Reflection X and Hummingbird Exceed X-Window emulation
• Also works with VNC to reduce bandwidth requirements between the server and operator station
Single .tar file included with Cisco MGC Node Manager 2.7(3) Media Kit
Connectivity
Cisco VSPT requires a TCP/IP network connection to the Cisco PGW 2200 and Cisco BAMS with no minimum requirement for bandwidth; however, bursting support for up to 256 Kbps is recommended. Connections with less than 128 Kbps may slow the provisioning process for fully loaded Cisco PGW 2200 configurations.
Function
Configuration management and infrastructure provisioning
System Capacity
Cisco VSPT connects with a single Cisco PGW 2200 or Cisco BAMS node at a time, so there are no capacity issues to consider. Multiple xterm operators may access Cisco VSPT simultaneously, which may increase the Sun platform requirement in order to maintain desirable operator response time.
System Requirements
The Sun hardware requirements for Cisco VSPT are as follows:
• Sun Solaris 8 or Solaris 10 operating system
• 300 MB available disk space
• 128 MB RAM minimum
• 128 MB minimum swap space
To Acquire the Software
Visit the Cisco.com
VSPT download page to download Cisco Management Software for versions 2.6(1) and previous and all VSPT patches. VSPT 2.7(3) core software is now bundled with Cisco MGC Node Manager 2.7(3) and is no longer offered as a download from Cisco.com.
Service and Support
Cisco offers a wide range of services programs to accelerate customer success. These services programs are delivered through a combination of people, processes, tools, and partners, resulting in high levels of customer satisfaction. Cisco services help you to protect your network investment, optimize network operations, and prepare the network for new applications to extend network intelligence and the power of your business. Service and support for Cisco VSPT is included as part of the service and support contract on the Cisco PGW 2200 versions 9.6(1) and before. VSPT 2.7(3) is supported now as part of the Cisco MGC Node Manager service contract. For more information about Cisco services, see
